COLOR SPOTLIGHT: TERRACOTTA

WHY D|B IS LOVING TERRACOTTA

We’ve been obsessing over all the beautiful shades of terracotta/earthy pink/ruddy orange -  however you want to describe it - we absolutely LOVE it! And don’t think it’s just for spring/summer (cue gorgeous summer sunsets) ... it can be incorporated into your space anytime of year and can work oh so well, anywhere, even if it’s just a beautiful handmade terracotta vase sitting on a shelf. Try it -- you won’t regret it!

The bathroom above is in the home of Allison Clouser, our co-founder. For her bathroom floor, she chose this gorgeous hex tile from Bedrosians Tile & Stone -- it’s the ‘Makoto’ in “Terracotta” (stay tuned -- professional photos coming soon). She combined the beautiful shade with other natural elements like the wood stool and the jute rug (more on this later). We love how it warms up the space and offsets the whites and grey in the rest of the material palette.

PRO TIP: Don’t be afraid to mix some warmth with cool tones -- they balance each other really well.

INSPO PICS

If you read our blog last week about what we’re loving for spring, you know natural colors like wood/rattan is one of our favorite trends right now. We think this terracotta color looks so pretty with natural elements like these! Remember what Allison did in her bathroom with the jute rug and natural wood stool? This is what we are talking about; that warm, natural color is a gorgeous compliment to the pinkish-brownish shade.

PRO TIP: Add a natural wood vase to your kitchen island, and fill with beautiful parrot tulips in a gorgeous orangey pink color. Or, style a terracotta vase and a wood shallow bowl like the one below, and add fruits and vegetables. You get the idea -- a little or a lot can go a long way!

TRENDING TILE STYLES

You know we’re tile geeks, so we can’t help but mention how to infuse this earthy color with some hard materials, like these, as a backsplash or a floor. This bathroom floor below has us dreaming of terracotta herringbone, and this gorgeous natural terracotta hexagon would be stunning in an entryway. Let us know if you are obsessed too!

PRO TIP: We love using natural terracotta in mudrooms too -- just a pop adds texture to any space, as well as a sense of old world charm against modern aesthetics.
